To meet the increasing medical needs of aging Baby Boomers, insurance companies continually update their claims processing procedures, fueling the job explosion for medical coding and billing professionals.

As vital members of a medical team, medical billing professionals acquire a diverse set of skills and knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy, as well as proficiency in medical coding and billing software.

FVCC’s Medical Coding AAS degree program can be completed in two years and offers students the opportunity to participate in an optional internship. Classes cover medical coding and billing, office procedures, basic human biology, disease processes and pharmacology, technology and more.


  • Graduates of FVCC’s Medical Coding program are prepared to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) examination.
  • The national annual mean wage for a medical coding professional is $35,900, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Demand for skilled medical coding and billing professionals is expected to increase by 15 percent nationally between 2014 and 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
