FAQs

Anyone 16 and up can participate in our programs. High school students 16-18 years old must submit high school or homeschool withdrawal letters, as well as other forms depending on age. Contact us for more details. All of FVCC Adult Education services are free to the public. We do require a pre-test using the TABE to determine service needs and to participate in our programs. Students who complete the TABE pre-test, 40 hours of instructional time, and a TABE post-test will be eligible for our scholarship program which also covers the cost of HiSET. Contact us to get scheduled for an orientation. Students 16 years old must meet with the director and a parent/guardian to go over required documentation prior to orientation. At orientation, we cover required paperwork, class schedules and expectations, HiSET information and account setup, online homework program signup, services offered, scholarship information and TABE pre-testing. Contact us for the next available orientation and start of classes. You will need to provide your legal first and last name, age, date of birth, gender, type of valid identification you will use, required documentation based on age, phone number and email. HiSET prep morning classes are 10 weeks long, Monday through Thursday, 9am-11am. Evening classes are offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm-7:30pm, following the LCC Spring Semester schedule. Study hall services are available Monday through Thursday, 11am-12pm.
The Test of Adult Basic Education is a diagnostic test used to determine an individual's skill level and aptitudes. We test the areas of math, reading and language. Many students use the scores from this test to determine areas they are ready to test in on the HiSET. We have many students whose lives are busy or students who live in rural areas, and they cannot attend classes on campus during the times offered. For students ages 17 and up, we can work with you to prepare for tests at times which are convenient for you. Contact us to discuss your options. Students 16 years of age must participate in our classes. Students 17 or 18 must submit proper documentation to our program before being cleared for HiSET testing on our campuses. Anyone 17 and up has the option to take the HiSET on their own, and can also take the TABE pretest prior to the HiSET to determine if services are needed. The HiSET tests students' knowledge in math, reading, science, social studies and writing. Students must obtain a combined score of 45 to pass the HiSET.

The GED tests students' knowledge in language arts, math, science, and social studies. Students must obtain a score of 145 on each test to pass.
