FVCC offers hands-on construction training in August
MISSOULA, Mont. — Flathead Valley Community College is offering two hands-on construction training programs this August aimed at preparing students for in-demand skilled trades careers.
The short courses are open to beginners and those looking to build on existing experience. Participants will complete the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) CORE curriculum, earn OSHA safety credentials, and gain experience through in-person instruction, online modules, and hands-on training.
Courses offered include:
Week 1: Introduction to Construction runs August 11–15 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The course is designed for those exploring careers in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or fabrication. Students will leave with a worksite-ready certificate after completing safety training, foundational skills, and NCCER modules.
Week 2: Construction Trades Fast Track follows from August 18–22 and is geared toward students who have completed the first course. The fast-track option focuses on deeper training in framing, teamwork, and job-site communication. Students will finish their NCCER certification and gain access to an additional 20 hours of online content through September 30.
Both courses are taught by experienced trades educator Arthur Morken at the FVCC Trades Institute. Scholarships are available for qualifying students.
