Folk sensation Rising Appalachia to play in Kalispell
MISSOULA, Mont. — The Wachholz College Center is set to welcome internationally acclaimed folk ensemble Rising Appalachia to the Flathead Valley on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m.
Founded by sisters Leah and Chloe Smith on their back porch in Georgia, Rising Appalachia began with simple fiddle and banjo melodies rooted in their family’s rich musical traditions. Nearly two decades later, the group has evolved into a globally recognized Americana and world folk ensemble known for blending Southern-inspired music, storytelling and a strong sense of community.
The band now features David Brown on bass and guitar, Duncan Wickel on fiddle and cello, and Biko Casini on percussion. Together, they create a layered sound drawing from Appalachian, Irish and other traditional influences while remaining grounded in thoughtful, stripped-down songwriting.
Rising Appalachia has captivated audiences around the world — from busking on the streets of New Orleans to touring across Europe. The group has performed at renowned venues and festivals including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. Appearances on NPR’s Tiny Desk and at Preservation Hall have further cemented their standing in the contemporary folk scene.
Tickets for the March 15 performance are on sale now and start at $39.60, inclusive of all fees. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit wccmt.org or contact the Wachholz College Center ticket office at 406-756-1400.
