Professional Development
The professional development schedule for employees is now available for sign-ups! This acclaimed program offers a diverse range of over 45 workshops throughout the year, covering various topics including mental and physical well-being, technical skills like Zoom and Canva, a supervisor series, and our popular FVCC101 series, which focuses on understanding our college and its departments.
This year, we are also hosting the Campus Read Initiative, which concentrates on artificial intelligence. In partnership with the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), we are providing multiple opportunities for participation. Understanding artificial intelligence is essential for building and sustaining our community and supporting the students we serve.
The workshops are open to all employees; however, professional and classified employees are required to complete four professional development courses each year from August to May. Employees can choose a professional development course, a job-related college class, or substitute one department-provided training to fulfill the requirement. Courses are tracked through SignUpGenius, and employees must set up an account to register for classes and receive credit.
Additionally, designated Continuing Education courses may also qualify for professional development credit. Employees can use the tuition waiver according to Continuing Education guidelines, although extra costs may apply to either the department or the employee.
Most professional development courses have a participant cap of 25 people. Please email HR@fvcc.edu to inquire if a course can be accessed via Zoom. If there is high demand for a course, we will evaluate the possibility of offering additional sessions. Classes will be closed as they fill, so don’t wait until the end of the year to enroll!
Before registering, employees must consult with their supervisors to coordinate department scheduling and explore value-added training opportunities for career and personal growth.
