Wilderness Speaker Series: My Wilderness Life – One Man’s Search for Meaning in Montana’s Backcountry

February 22, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

Join presenter and FVCC adjunct instructor John Fraley for “My Wilderness Life: One Man’s Search for meaning in Montana’s Backcountry”.

John will be sharing stories from his newest book. My Wilderness Life chronicles the author’s lifelong love of all places wild and his obsession with uncovering what happened on the August 1974 morning when Terry McCoy’s airplane crashed in what would become the Welcome Creek Wilderness. Join Fraley on a frantic search to find his friend and also on epic treks to traverse an impassable river canyon, snorkel with pure westslope cutthroat trout, retrace the footsteps of conservation icon Bud Moore, track lynx and mountain lion across the Great Bear Wilderness in winter, hike 42 miles through the Bob Marshall Wilderness in a single day, and much more. At turns hilarious and heart-breaking, My Wilderness Life reveals how one man’s unfulfilled dreams can inspire another’s adventures.

The Wilderness Speaker Series brings timely and interesting wilderness topics to the public to raise awareness and inspire community discussion. Presented by the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation, Wild Montana Flathead-Kootenai Chapter, Northwest Montana Fire Lookout Association, and the FVCC Natural Resources Conservation Management program.
