Rocky Mountain College History Professor to Provide Fresh Interpretation of Custer's Last Stand at FVCC

In celebration of American Indian Heritage Day, Flathead Valley Community College will welcome Tim Lehman, professor of history at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, for a free presentation, “Voices from the Little Big Horn,” he will deliver for the community September 23.

In his presentation, Lehman will address the Battle of Little Big Horn, commonly known as Custer’s Last Stand, and how many of its aspects are poorly understood.  Lehman will use popular culture records including newspaper accounts, films, paintings and poems to explore the traditional myth of Custer’s Land Stand, offering a fresh interpretation using recent battlefield archaeology and a new appreciation of Indian accounts.

Sponsored by Humanities Montana, the event is open to the public and will take place at 6 p.m. inside the large community meeting room in the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus in Kalispell.
