New Spanish Tapas Event, Chef's Table Wine Dinners and Grand Wine Tasting Among FVCC Festival of Flavors Event Line-up

The Flathead Valley Community College Foundation will host its fourth annual Festival of Flavors September 29 through October 8.  The gala will feature 13 events showcasing the talents of eight of the Flathead’s finest chefs and FVCC culinary arts students and faculty.

Last year, the event raised $50,000 for student scholarships and programs at FVCC, a record for an FVCC Foundation fundraising event.  This year, the Foundation hopes to top their record and invites the community to support the cause.

“This event is a fabulous way to enjoy delicious foods prepared by some of our Valley’s top chefs,” said event chair Donna Lawson of Bigfork.  “We encourage you to help support FVCC students and programs by joining us for an evening or more of festive foods, fine wines, locally produced brews and handcrafted spirits.”

Among the chefs highlighted in the event are FVCC’s world-trained culinary arts instructor Chef Howard Karp and the college’s culinary arts students.  They will present two Chef’s  Table dinners September 30 and October 7 featuring light hors d’oeuvres followed by a four-course dinner comprised of an appetizer, sorbet, main course, cheese course and a featured dessert.  Each course will be paired with select fine wines.  Patrons will enjoy dinner in the college’s 3,224-square-foot instructional kitchen inside the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus. During the event, the students will deliver the entire presentation including the food and beverage preparation, plating and service.  Karp will serve as the evening’s emcee, introducing each course and how it is prepared.

On October 4, local Distiller and Chef Lisa Cloutier, owner of the Raven Brew Pub and Grill in Woods Bay, will present “Handcrafted Spirits, Spanish Wines and Tapas,” a new addition to the Festival.  The evening will feature various spirits handcrafted by Cloutier’s distillery, Whistling Andy in Bigfork, and a variety of tapas accompanied by Spanish wines.  The event will take place at the home of Pat and Denny Winkel in Kalispell.

The Festival will culminate with its Grand Wine Tasting Event on October 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kalispell.  Over 200 wines presented by event sponsor Fun Beverage, now celebrating its 30th year in business, will be available for patrons to sample.  Guests will enjoy a variety of culinary delights from local restaurants and caterers, as well as food venues prepared and served by the college’s culinary students.  FVCC Student Ambassadors will be on hand to assist with the silent and live auctions to raise money for student scholarships and programs.
