The Flathead Valley Community College Art Department will welcome guest artist Rob Wick to campus for a free presentation he will deliver on his inflatable art sculptures. The community lecture will take place November 19 at 5 p.m. in room 208 inside the Arts & Technology building on the college’s Kalispell campus.

While on campus, Wick will spend the week teaching inflatable sculpture creation to students enrolled in Susan Guthrie’s Visual Language—2D Foundations classes. Wick will bring with him nearly four decades of teaching art at the elementary and secondary school levels and nearly a decade of teaching art at University of Alaska Anchorage. Wick currently teaches art at Mercer Island High School in Mercer Island, Wash.

Wick is known for his inflatable sculptures, spanning as tall as 60 feet and as long as 200 feet. He has designed all of his inflatable pieces to accommodate individuals on the inside of the art. This morning, students in Guthrie’s class attended the lecture inside Wick’s giant inflatable crab.
