“Guys and Dolls” Opens April 19 at FVCC

Isabelle Bennett plays Sarah Brown and Michael Christensen plays Sky Masterson in FVCC’s production of “Guys and Dolls.”

FVCC’s Theatre and Music programs present the beloved musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” with performances scheduled for April 19, 21, 26 and 28 at 7 p.m. and April 20 and 27 at 8 p.m. in the campus theatre.

Hailed as one of the greatest musicals of all time, “Guys and Dolls” follows New York’s gamblers and gals in their pursuit of luck and love. With lively, show-stopping tunes such as “Luck Be a Lady,” “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” “Sue Me” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” this Broadway classic still sparkles nearly 70 years after its Broadway premiere in 1950.

High rollers are in town, and they’re depending on Nathan Detroit to score the latest and greatest hot spot for their floating crap game. Trouble is, he’s $1000 shy. Supporting characters include buttoned-down Sarah Brown, who is short on sinners at the Save-a-Soul mission, the dashing Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan’s $1000 bet that he can’t lure Sarah Brown to Havana, and the loveable Miss Adelaide, who is ever so desperate to marry Nathan after a 14-year engagement.

“It is a joy to work with so many students and community members on such a charming piece,” Director Rebecca Spear said. “We are excited to share it with audiences.”

The play features a live-pit orchestra, directed by FVCC Music Program Director Nicole Sanford. “The collaboration between the live pit orchestra and the actors is quite a rarity in the Flathead Valley,” Sanford said.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for senior citizens and free for all students. Tickets are available for purchase at the door or in advance at the FVCC Bookstore or online at www.fvcc.edu/theatre.
