FVCC’s New Summer Classes Include Animal First-Aid, Beekeeping and Sailing

FVCC’s Continuing Education Center will offer a class on the basics of beekeeping in June. “Introductory Beekeeping” is one of several new non-credit classes offered at the college this summer.

FVCC’s Continuing Education Center is offering several new classes this summer, including pet first-aid, basic beekeeping and sailing on Flathead Lake.

“K-9 First Aid & CPR” instructor Bill McCabe will teach students how to apply first aid and CPR to their pets in medical emergencies. The class will meet on June 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Upon completing the class, students will receive a K-9 First Aid & CPR certificate that is valid for two years. Cost to participate is $65 per person.

Master Beekeeper Petro Ondracek will teach “Introductory Beekeeping” on June 3, 10 and 17 from 9 a.m. to noon on the FVCC campus. Students will learn about honey bee biology and behavior, beekeeping supplies and equipment, pest management and more. Cost to participate is $59 per person.

Two instructors certified by U.S. Sailing, George Michels and Trevon Baker, will introduce students to the concepts and skills necessary to take the helm of a 25’ sloop on Flathead Lake. “First Sail” will begin on June 14 with an evening classroom session complemented by online learning resources. Sailing dates will be determined by instructors and students during the class session. Cost to participate is $75 per person.

Also new this summer is a three-hour class designed to teach people how to walk in harmony with their individual skeletal structure. “Movement Matters: Walking in Alignment” will be offered June 3 from 9 a.m. to noon and again on June 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. Students will learn how to get their alignment back on track with a 10-step guide to proper walking. Cost to participate in either class is $25 per person.

There are still openings in several Kid’s College classes for children in grades 1 through 8. New this summer are two classes designed for children who will be entering grades 4 to 6 this fall, “All about Australia” and “European Adventures.” Kid’s College will be offered June 19-23 and June 26-30. Several morning and afternoon classes are available; cost to participate varies from class to class.
