FVCC's Grandparents College Offers a One-Day Intergenerational Experience

Registration is now open for Flathead Valley Community College’s Grandparents College which will take place July 11 on campus.

Grandparent’s College offers community members the unique opportunity to spend time with a grandchild, niece, nephew, or young friend in a fun and educational setting.  The program includes a morning course from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and an afternoon course from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“CLUE – Life Size,” taught by FVCC Chemistry and Forensics Instructor Janice Alexander, Ph.D., features a mystery which students will solve using teamwork, obtaining fingerprints, and analyzing data.  The course will teach some of the tools and techniques used in processing crime scenes and collecting and analyzing evidence.  Alexander earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Virginia and has taught forensic science for over 15 years.

“Art for All Ages” offers fun art exercises for those who are young and those who are young at heart.  Taught by local artist Jane Emmert, the course will explore expressive art, scribble sketching, and art games with paint and chalk.  Emmert is known for her use of bold colors and her semi-impressionistic style.  She instructs watercolor and acrylic courses around the Flathead Valley.  She coached gymnastics for 16 years in Whitefish and loves to work with kids of all ages.

The content is targeted to children in grades 3-6.  Grandparents of any age are welcome.  The cost is $49 per person which includes a $15 materials fee.  For more information or to register contact FVCC’s Continuing Education Center at 756-3832 or visit
