FVCC to Offer New Printmaking Course This Spring
The Flathead Valley Community College Art Department will introduce a new emphasis in its printmaking course beginning this coming spring semester. The new focus of the course will involve comprehensive printmaking processes as opposed to its former exclusive focus on the intaglio printmaking process.
Instructors Josh Mohler and John Rawlings have spent the last six months refining plans so the course includes both intaglio and reduction block techniques. The course will begin with a portfolio exercise using oriental papers and will continue with explorations of both intaglio and relief printing.
“We wanted to build a class that looked at both of these techniques and allowed students the opportunity to achieve a much broader understanding of the print process,” said Rawlings. “The printmaking room is one of our best kept secrets on the FVCC campus. We have two excellent presses and are committed to maintaining non-toxic studio practices.”
The Printmaking course will be limited to 10 students, so registering early for the class is recommended. Early registration for spring semester 2012 will take place on the FVCC campus December 1-21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will resume on campus after the holiday break January 9-11 and 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
