FVCC to Host Hand-Drum Competition and Bison Film Screening

College Seeking One-Man Hand Drummers and Native American Vendors

In honor of the Buffalo Nation, the Flathead Valley Community College Multicultural Affairs Office will present a one-man hand-drum competition on the college campus March 12.  The event will feature one man hand-drum singers, a film screening of the critically-acclaimed recently-released documentary “Facing the Storm:  The Story of the American Bison” and Native American arts and crafts and food vendors.

The event will kick off at 5 p.m. with the film followed by the hand-drum competition at 7 p.m.  Activities will take place inside the Arts and Technology Building and will be open to the public.  Admission into the event is $3 per person, and children and elders are welcome at no charge.

Cash prizes will be awarded to winners of the hand-drum competition.  Hand-drum singers interested in competing and vendors interested in participating can contact Mick Stemborski in advance of the competition at 756-3945 or at mstembor@fvcc.edu.  Singers also are welcome to register to compete at the door.
