FVCC to Host Free Informational Session on Medical Transcription Online Certificate Program

Flathead Valley Community College will host a free informational session on its Medical Transcription Certificate of Applied Science online program August 11 at 6 p.m.

The program, which takes two semesters to complete, prepares students to become medical transcriptionists.  The career is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States and is projected to increase 11 percent from 2008 to 2018.

Medical transcriptionists are responsible for listening to dictated recordings generated by physicians and other healthcare professionals and then transcribing them into medical reports, correspondence and other administrative material.  Documents medical transcriptionists produce include discharge summaries, history and physical examination reports, autopsy reports, diagnostic imaging studies and referral letters.

Medical transcriptionists are employed in health care facilities and some telecommute from their home offices.  Students who perform well in the program and receive high honors are highly recruited by large transcription companies throughout the world, enabling them to work from their homes.

The information session will take place in the Arts and Technology Building large community meeting room on the college’s Kalispell campus.  For more information, call Business, Allied Health and Office Technology Instructor Brenda Rudolph at 756-3858, or email brudolph@fvcc.edu.
