FVCC to Hold Free Lecture on the Life of an Afghanistan Villager

Flathead Valley Community College’s Multicultural Affairs Office and The Scholars Program at FVCC will welcome Professor Owen Sirrs to teach free a lecture on the life of an Afghanistan villager on March 15.

Sirrs’ presentation will center on the life of an Afghanistan citizen surrounded by American forces on the ground.  Guests of the lecture will receive a first-person, first-hand account of recent events which will vary from perspectives reported through traditional news sources.  Sirrs trains U.S. military troops on the people and culture of Afghanistan prior to the troops’ deployment, and during the lecture, he also will share a role-playing exercise he uses with the troops..

Sirrs is an Associate Professor at The University of Montana for the Defense Critical Language and Culture program, teaching language and culture of Middle East countries.  He has served as a senior intelligence officer for the Defense Intelligence Agency based in Washington D.C., and he is the author of “Nasser and the Missile Age in the Middle East.”

Free and open to the public, the lecture will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the large community meeting room inside the Arts and Technology Building on the college campus.  For more information, contact Mick Stemborski at 756-3945 or at mstembor@fvcc.edu.
