FVCC’s Continuing Education Center is offering a variety of boating classes this summer for adults of all ages.
American Canoe Association-certified instructor Anne Clark will teach two sea kayaking classes, “Women on Water” and “Introduction to Sea Kayaking.” Both classes will begin in the pool at the Summit Fitness Center so that students can master basic skills before entering open water, including exiting a capsized kayak, draining and righting the kayak, and safely re-entering it. Kayaks will be provided for students who do not supply their own.
“Women on Water” is for women with beginning or intermediate sea kayaking skills. The class will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 23 at the Summit pool to prepare students for a five-hour tour on a local lake the following day. Cost to participate is $130 per person.
“Introduction to Sea Kayaking” is suitable for men and women with some or no sea kayaking experience. The class will meet from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on July 7 at the Summit pool to prepare students for a five-hour tour on a local lake the following day. Cost to participate is $130 per person.
Clark is the owner of Montana Sea Kayak Adventures, LLC and has taught sea kayaking skills to people of all abilities for several years using curriculum established by the American Canoe Association.
In addition to sea kayaking classes, FVCC is offering a class on sailing. Two instructors certified by U.S. Sailing, George Michels and Trevon Baker, will introduce students to the concepts and skills necessary to take the helm of a 25’ sloop on Flathead Lake. “First Sail” will begin on June 14 with an evening classroom session complemented by online learning resources. Sailing dates will be determined by instructors and students during the class session. Cost to participate is $75 per person.
Pre-registration is required for all FVCC Continuing Education classes. For more information or to register, visit www.fvcc.edu/continuing-education or call 756-3832.
