FVCC Offers Relationship Building Class for Parents and Teenagers
Flathead Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center is hosting a new class designed to improve the relationships between parents and teenagers. “Parents and Teenagers: Bridging the Gap” is scheduled for Saturday, October 22 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the college.
The instructor, Sam Herbert, is a retired mental health professional with more than 30 years of experience in the field. As a formerly licensed psychologist and a marriage/family therapist trained in individual, couple and family psychotherapy, Herbert has a special interest in the parent-teenager relationship.
Herbert will work with parent and teenager pairs to help them identify their individual communication styles and develop a common language. He will cover the four major causes of conflict between parents and teens and offer strategies for minimizing, managing and resolving conflicts.
In order to participate in the class, parents must be accompanied by a teenager. All participants must possess at least a 10th-grade reading level.
For more information or to register for the class, call the Continuing Education Center at 756-3832 or visit www.fvcc.edu/continuing-education.
