FVCC Offers Free Presentation on Palestine and Israel

Flathead Valley Community College’s Multicultural Affairs Office at FVCC will welcome Sam and Ruth Neff to present “Gaining Perspective in the Holy Land,” a discussion of their recent travels to Palestine and Israel for the community February 5.

The couple will describe highlights of their trip which included visits to Hebron, Ramallah, Nablus, and Jenin in the West Bank, including many places not usually seen by American tourists, as well as the more typically traveled destinations of Nazareth, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem.  They will also discuss people they met including Muslims, Christians, and Israeli Jews who were working for peace in the region.  Their presentation will be illustrated by photographs of their experiences.

Sam Neff is a retired physics professor, and Ruth is a nursing Instructor.  In the mid-1980s, they helped found Neighbors East and West, an organization which promotes grassroots contact between Americans and citizens of countries considered adversaries.  Over the course of the past 30 years, the Neffs have organized or participated in travel programs to the Soviet Union, Cuba, Yugoslavia, Iran, and most recently, Palestine and Israel.  Descriptions of their recent trips can be found on the website

Free and open to the public, the lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in room 144 inside the Arts and Technology Building on the college campus.  For more information, contact Mick Stemborski at 756-3945 or at
