FVCC Offers Fall Workshops to Help Supervisors and Small Businesses Succeed
Flathead Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center is accepting registrations for its popular “Jump Start for Supervisors” series, which begins October 20 and concludes December 20.
“Jump Start for Supervisors” is a series of nine workshops designed to develop the supervisory and management skills of new, emerging or experienced leaders within an organization. The series is taught by Allison McCarthy, who has held management positions with Proctor and Gamble, Pentagon Federal Credit Union and First Interstate Bank.
“Most supervisors are promoted from within an organization and have no formal supervisory training,” said McCarthy. “They were good at their jobs, so they were promoted to leadership positions. But in order for them to be successful and retain good employees, they need to develop some key supervisory skills.”
Topics covered in the “Jump Start for Supervisors” series include transition to supervising, communication, conflict management, accountability, performance coaching, time management, supporting change, creating strong teams and developing a leadership mindset. The series begins on Thursday, October 20 and continues for eight consecutive Tuesdays from November 1 to December 20. Each class runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the FVCC campus. Students may sign up for individual sessions or for the entire series. The cost to register is $35 per session or $285 for the entire series.
In addition to “Jump Start for Supervisors”, FVCC’s Continuing Education Center is offering a selection of classes designed to help small businesses and entrepreneurs master internet marketing. All classes are taught by Shannon Hanson from the Computer Doctor. “Facebook for Business” will cover the basics of building an effective business presence on Facebook and is scheduled on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. October 10 – 24 on the FVCC campus. Participants are required to have an active email account that they can access from any computer. Cost to register is $125 per person.
