FVCC Offers Board Development Training

Kalispell, Mont.—Flathead Valley Community College is offering a day-long conference for individuals who serve on or work for a board of directors.  “The High Performing Board:  A Best Practices Conference for Board Members and Staff Leadership” will be held September 11 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the college’s Kalispell campus.

 

Main session speakers will be Carter and Teri McNamara from Minneapolis. Carter is co-founder of Authenticity Consulting, LLC, a firm which specializes in capacity building and peer learning services, including board development programs to serve new and established organizations. He will bring 20 years of experience working with nonprofit boards, including consultation, research and publications. Teri consults on a wide range of leadership and organizational development topics, including board development, and has co-facilitated dozens of board development and board training projects.

 

During the morning session, the McNamaras will lead a discussion on board of directors best practices, tactics for effective board oversight, strategies for improving leadership, board relations and other topics of relevance. During the afternoon, participants will take part in break-out sessions led by Ned Cooney, owner of an independent consulting practice Ascent Strategic Development, and Dale Cockrell and Jay T. Johnston, practicing attorneys with Moore, Cockrell, Goicoechea and Johnson, P.C. Participants will leave the conference with written plans ready to implement for their boards.
