As part of National Surgical Technologists Week, Flathead Valley Community College invites the community to learn more about the profession during an open house on September 20. Free and open to the public, the event will run from 6 to 8 pm in room 135 of the Brossard Center for Nursing & Health Science.
FVCC offers an Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology. Current students will provide an overview of the program and the important role surgical technologists play in the operating room.
Graduates of FVCC’s Surgical Technology program are prepared to sit for the national certification exam. Since 2007, FVCC students have achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the national exam. Once certified, graduates are eligible to apply for employment with hospitals, surgery centers, veterinary clinics, organ and tissue procurement clinics, private medical practices and other healthcare businesses. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the annual mean wage for a surgical technologist working in Montana is $45,720.
