Flathead Valley Community College’s international student club, Global Friends, invites the public to a screening of the Brazilian-British adventure drama, “Trash”, on March 2. Visiting Fulbright Teaching Assistant Anderson Viana de Carvalho, Jr. from Brazil will provide introductory comments and facilitate audience discussion after the conclusion of the film. Free and open to the public, the event is scheduled from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in room 140 of Blake Hall on the FVCC campus.

Released in 2014, “Trash” follows three Brazilian street teenagers who spend their time picking through garbage in hopes of finding useful waste. One day they discover a wallet, the contents of which bring them into conflict with the brutal local police force as they find themselves whistleblowers in a city rife with corruption. Rather than turn the wallet over to the authorities for a reward, the teens seek the advice of a priest, Father Juilliard (Martin Sheen) and another trusted adult, Olivia (Rooney Mara). The film is rated R for language and violence.

FVCC welcomed Carvalho last August from Brasilia, Brazil. Carvalho is teaching Portuguese classes at the college and will return home in May.
