In celebration of the Chinese New Year on February 8, Flathead Valley Community College’s (FVCC) international student club invites the public to a free presentation by visiting Fulbright Scholar Qingfeng Zi at 4:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Arts and Technology Building on campus.

Zi will speak about Chinese New Year traditions and the symbolism of this year’s Chinese zodiac animal sign, the monkey. He will also share his thoughts about the confluences of culture reflected in the Chinese Terracotta Army-inspired sculptures currently on display in the student art gallery.

Last semester FVCC ceramics students were tasked with making contemporary warrior or hero figures using the 2,200-year-old Chinese Terracotta Army as an inspiration. Zi’s presentation coincides with an art opening for the sculptures.

FVCC welcomed Zi last August from Kunming, China. Zi is teaching Mandarin Chinese classes at the college and will return home in May.
