FVCC Hosts Weed Workshop for Small Landowners

The Flathead Conservation District invites small-acreage landowners to a two-part weed workshop at Flathead Valley Community College March 3 and 9. Free and open to the public, the workshop is designed for local landowners who want to learn more about chemical and non-chemical means of noxious weed abatement. Both sessions are scheduled from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the large community room inside the Arts and Technology Building on campus.

“Noxious weeds cannot be fought alone – it takes a village,” said Flathead County Weed Education and Compliance Office Grete Miller. “This workshop is a great way for people to get in touch with local weed professionals, ask questions and get a jump on weed management before summer hits.”

Weed experts from the Flathead County Weed District, the U.S. Forest Service, Glacier National Park, Montana State University Extension Program, Montana Department of Agriculture and CHS Country Store will share information and be available to answer questions. On March 3, participants will learn about noxious weed identification, integrated management techniques and chemical labeling. On March 9, participants will learn how to properly calibrate a chemical sprayer and receive information about basic safety practices when using chemical applications.
