FVCC Hosts Salary Negotiation Workshop

logo_180iphoneFlathead Valley Community College will host a workshop on April 21 designed to teach people how to professionally negotiate a fair salary. Free and open to the public, “Start Smart” is relevant to women and men of all ages.

Sponsored by FVCC, American Association of University Women (AAUW) Kalispell Branch and Flathead Job Service, the workshop will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Arts and Technology Building on campus. Lunch and workshop materials will be provided to all participants. Pre-registration is required at kalispellstartsmart.eventzilla.net.

“We want young people to be able to ‘start smart’ as they enter the workforce,” said Jesse Kuntz, AAUW Kalispell Branch President. “It’s important for new college graduates to learn how to negotiate a fair salary so they can have the opportunity to achieve better economic security for themselves.”

Participants will learn how to identify the appropriate job title to match their current skills and experience, as well as how to determine the median salary range paid for this title. In addition, they will learn tips for approaching an employer about re-negotiating a salary or for entering into salary negotiations for a new position.

Later in the day on April 21, FVCC and the Flathead Job Service will host the Flathead Valley Job Fair in the Arts and Technology Building. More than 70 local employers with current job openings will be at the fair seeking qualified applicants. Veterans and their families will be given exclusive access to the event from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. The event will be open for the general public from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. There is no charge for job seekers to attend.
