FVCC Hosts Celtic Concert
Flathead Valley Community College will welcome the Montana Highlanders Association Bagpipe Band for a Scottish-Irish concert they will present for the community October 30. The event is a fundraiser for the purchase of authentic, custom-made, full-dress Scottish uniforms for each member of the band.
Joining Montana Highlanders Pipes and Drums will be the Highland Singers under the direction of Karla West along with Connie Rudie and Ed Boggs of the Highland Fiddlers.
Attendees will enjoy traditional and well-known Irish and Scottish pieces and folk songs and a medley of spritely jigs and reels. History of the pieces performed and information about Celtic culture will be presented by narrator Dianne Dunne Guenther. Pipe Major Rod Douglas will provide an educational overview of the Scottish uniforms.
Sponsored by FVCC Student Engagement, the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the large community room inside the Arts & Technology Building on the college’s Kalispell campus.
There is no admission charge to attend the concert. All attendees will have the opportunity to make a tax-deductible donation for the uniforms to the Montana Highlanders Association Bagpipe Band’s nonprofit corporation. Refreshments will be available for purchase at Campus Grounds on the main floor of the Arts & Technology Building adjacent to the FVCC Theatre.
