FVCC Art Instructor to Deliver Venice Semester Abroad Presentation "Through the Eyes of an Artist"

Flathead Valley Community College invites the community to join Art Instructor Susan Guthrie  as she presents, “Through the Eyes of an Artist,” a special presentation on the college’s spring 2014 Venice semester abroad program.  The presentation will take place October 9 at 4 p.m. in room 144 inside the Arts and Technology Building on campus.

Guthrie will share her personal perspective of Venice as a two-year facilitator of the FVCC Venice Study Abroad Program.  While in Venice for the upcoming program, Guthrie will instruct “Watercolor Painting/Italian Landscape” and “History of Italian Art and Architecture” courses.

Guthrie, a native Montanan, has been an art educator in Kalispell at Flathead High School for 26 years and at FVCC as an adjunct faculty member for 12 years.  She was named Art Educator of the Year by the Montana Art Education Association in 2007 and has served as the president of the association. She was recently recognized by the Claus Noble National Honor Society for High School Scholars by a student nomination.  She was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Hockaday Members Salon in 2007.  Guthrie most recently earned a Master of Arts from New York University and had a master’s exhibition in Berlin, Germany, this summer.

The Venice semester abroad program will take place January 24 through April 19, 2014 in Venice, Italy.  Participating students will have the opportunity to earn up to 22 college credits while they live, taste, speak and explore the city of Venice.  Anyone interested in learning more about the program is invited to attend the presentation.

Space in the program is limited.  A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due to the FVCC Business Office in order to reserve a place in the program. Final payment is due by October 30.  Students must be 18 years of age or older to participate without a parent or legal guardian.  Financial assistance is available to qualifying students.  Payment plan options also are available.
