FVCC Announces Application Deadline for Spring 2016 Surgical Technology Program

Flathead Valley Community College is now accepting applications for its spring 2016 surgical technology program. The two-year program engages students in both classroom and hands-on training, preparing students to assist in surgical operations. Surgical technologists serve as integral members of surgical teams, working closely with anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care before, during and following surgical procedures. The deadline to apply for the 2016 surgical technology program is October 2.
To be considered for admission into the surgical technology program, interested students must take the “Intro to Surgical Technology” course offered at FVCC this fall. New this year, the course provides prospective students an introduction to the surgical technology field. Topics include the work environment, attributes for success, and career opportunities. The course is open to anyone considering a degree in surgical technology. The admission deadline for fall courses is August 20.
The surgical technology program also provides students with opportunities to further their careers in a variety of areas including surgical specialists in various fields, traveling surgical technologists, surgical assistants, research and product development, material or supply management, supervisory positions, surgical technology instructors, product representatives, or veterinary surgical or animal care assistants.
FVCC’s program has seen a wave of success. 2015 marked the tenth consecutive year that FVCC surgical technology students have achieved a 100 percent graduate pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination, compared to the latest national average graduate pass rate of 71 percent. The CST examination is the only fully accredited examination by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for surgical technologists in the nation.
