FVCC AmeriCorps Offers Free Car Wash and Fuel for Veterans on September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance

In honor of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Flathead Valley Community College’s AmeriCorps Office is partnering with the Kalispell Vet Center to provide local veterans who present  official veterans identification cards or official DD214 documents each with a free car wash and a $25 gas card.  The car wash will be held on September 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the west parking lot of the college.  This event is open to the public, and donations are encouraged. All proceeds will go toward additional gas cards for veterans.

The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts originally launched in 2002 by the 9/11 nonprofit My Good Deed with wide support by the 9/11 community and leading national service organizations. This effort first established the inspiring tradition of engaging in charitable service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.  In 2009, Congress designated September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) with helping to support this effort across the country.

On the tenth anniversary of 9/11 last year, 33 million people spent the day helping others and 700,000 people volunteered.
