FVCC Alumna to Share Her Peace Corps Story
Flathead Valley Community College alumna and Peace Corps volunteer Terri Nichols will share her story during her presentation, “Two Years in Zambia: Perspectives on Cultural Exchange and Service in the Peace Corps,” she will deliver for the community November 20 at noon.
Nichols served as an agriculture/environment volunteer in rural Northern Zambia from February 2013 through May 2015. During her presentation, Nichols will discuss the culture of the Bemba people with whom she lived, as well as the challenges and rewards of volunteering in a remote African village. She also will field questions about requirements for applying to the Peace Corps.
Prior to her volunteer experience, Nichols worked as a seasonal field technician for the U.S. Forest Service, Student Conservation Association and the State of Montana. She is an independent freelance writer, and while in Zambia, she authored the blog thewandererinzambia.wordpress.com featuring her experiences there. Nichols is a 2012 graduate of FVCC where she received an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Natural Resource Management and Conservation.
Free and open to the public, the lecture will take place in the Board Room inside Blake Hall on the college’s Kalispell campus. For more information, call 756-3889.
