Free Income Tax Assistance Offered at FVCC

In partnership with Montana Credit Unions for Community Development, Flathead Valley Community College is offering free tax preparation until April 15 to Northwest Montana residents who earned $62,000 or less in 2015 through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Tax filings are prepared by Flathead area volunteers who are trained as Internal Revenue Service certified tax preparers. Tax preparations are being conducted on a walk-in basis Fridays from 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 236 inside the Arts and Technology building on the FVCC campus. Electronic filing and secure direct deposit services are available.

Community members are asked to provide picture identification; W-2s, 1099s, 1098s or other forms; Social Security cards or Taxpayer Identification Numbers for all family members or dependents being claimed; 1095-A if a tax credit from the healthcare.gov marketplace was received; last year’s tax returns; bank routing and account numbers; childcare provider’s name, address and tax identification number, if applicable; and a valid email address.
