Flathead Valley Community College welcomes Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Anderson Viana de Carvalho Junior of Brazil who will teach non-credit Portuguese classes at the college this coming year.

In the first course, “An Introductory Exploration of Brazil,” students will study the Portuguese language, including travel vocabulary, along with its diverse customs, culture and food. The course will begin September 22 and will meet Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. through October 20.

A continuation of the introductory course, “Continue the Journey Through Brazil,” will be offered Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning October 27 and concluding November 24. The course will provide expanded language lessons along with instruction on Brazil’s geography, weather and government. Students considering this course are encouraged, but not required, to complete the introductory course.

Viana de Carvalho is one of over 400 young educators from 50 countries who traveled to the United States in the 2015-2016 academic year through the Fulbright FLTA Program to help internationalize U.S. colleges and universities, a key goal of many institutions as they prepare students for the 21st century workforce and globalized world. Recipients of Fulbright FLTA grants are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential. Fulbright FLTA scholarships are awarded by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

The cost to enroll is $49 for each course, and preregistration is required to participate. Call 756-3832 or visit www.fvcc.edu/continuing-education for more information or to register.
