Wilderness Speaker Series: Wilderness Fisheries Management

Speakers: Jim Vashro, retired FWP fisheries manager, Leo Rosenthal — FWP fisheries biologist, Matt Boyer — FWP science program supervisor

Montana FWP fisheries managers will describe efforts to preserve fisheries integrity in the BMW.  Fish population estimates and creel surveys were first used to establish BMW fishing regulations in the early 1980s.  Subsequent census and bull trout management efforts will be discussed.  Finally, the South Fork Westslope Cutthroat Conservation Project to remove non-native rainbows and Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout to preserve the genetic integrity of Westslope Cutthroat in the South Fork will be discussed.

Presented by the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation, Montana Wilderness Association, Flathead-Kootenai Chapter, Northwest Montana Fire Lookout Association, Natural Resources Conservation Management Program at FVCC.
