STEM Expo & Open House

Flathead Valley Community College invites the community to an exploratory evening of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) on Tuesday, October 23.
FVCC offers Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees with an emphasis in various STEM fields, including agriculture, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, engineering, environmental biology, environmental science, environmental science, forensic science, forestry, geography, geology, mathematics, physics, resource conservation, and wildlife biology. Graduates of these programs are prepared to transfer to four-year universities and colleges to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
In addition to A.S. degrees that transfer toward bachelor’s degrees, FVCC offers several career and technical Certificate and Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in various STEM fields, including integrated agriculture and food systems, geospatial technology, information technology, natural resources conservation and management, programming and game development, surveying, and web technology. Graduates are prepared to sit for national certification exams or enter the workforce upon successful completion of program requirements.

Live Screening of “Voyage to Mars: Red Planet Chemistry”
A live panel discussion about Mars and the steps that need to be taken to safely send people there. Viewers will learn about the challenges of long-term space travel and the materials, biochemistry and astrochemistry that will help make an extended mission to Mars possible.

Unmanned Aerial Systems demos
FVCC’s Geospatial Technology and Surveying programs will demonstrate the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and discuss how drones are profoundly impacting the spatial sciences.

STEM open house with faculty and research students
Various STEM programs will hold an open house to help attendees identify which fields might best suit their interests and abilities. Faculty members will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about their respective programs, current students will present their research projects, and event attendees will have the opportunity to engage with hands-on exhibits.
