FVCC Now Accepting Applications For Fall 2010 Scholars Program

The Scholars Program at Flathead Valley Community College is now accepting applications for its second class beginning in fall 2010.  The program debuted last fall and provides academically capable and motivated students new opportunities to experience academically rigorous cross-disciplinary honors colloquia.  The program presents students a more extensive perspective on topics by incorporating two or more disciplines into seminar style classes.

The program was designed to provide scholar students with a seamless transition to either the Davidson Honors College at The University of Montana or the University Honors Program at Montana State University while helping students succeed in transferring to honors programs at four-year colleges and universities across the nation to complete baccalaureate degrees through academic preparation and curriculum planning.

Program courses are developed from a combination of any two of the traditional academic disciplines—humanities, math, social science, fine arts and science—and are taught by a team of two instructors.  The classes count for four credits each and are offered during the fall and spring semesters at FVCC.

Each student who is accepted into the program will receive a full-tuition scholarship and a renewable stipend and will be assigned a faculty mentor.  Scholar students will have access to the Scholars Program Center which consists of study area, classroom and library.  Program graduates will receive special designations on their college transcripts and will be presented with medallions at FVCC commencement.

The deadline for fall 2010 application submissions is April 26.  The college will host two open houses on March 16 and April 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Scholars Program Center inside the Business and Social Science Building on the FVCC campus.
