Trailside Glacier: Hiking in Glacier National Park

Program #4863

7/20-7/6; 7/27-8/2; 8/3-8/9

Hike the trails of Glacier National Park's incredible landscapes while discovering the natural wonders of bears and berries, goats and glaciers, marmots and pikas. Explore the "Crown of the Continent" with its dramatic geologic forces that continue to create hanging valleys, cirques, and knife-edged arêtes. As a special highlight, enjoy the ambience of a bygone era with a stay in the fabled Many Glacier Lodge, part of the Park's great heritage. Each day, naturalists lead you to both sides of the Continental Divide and along the famous Highline Trail to study wildlife in natural settings. Learn about icons of the wild: grizzlies, mountain goats, wolves, and see the geological forces that created this spectacular scenery. Traverse the Going-to-the Sun Highway through the Park, and explore some of the 700 miles of hiking trails on both sides of the Park that wind through high alpine meadows in the shadows of towering peaks. Activity Level FOUR for July 20 and August 3 sessions; hikes of 3-5 miles per day with elevation gains of 500' to 1,000'. Activity Level FIVE for July 27; hikes of 5-12 miles per day with elevation gains of 1,000' to 2,000'. Mountainous, physically demanding terrain. Elevations from 4,700' to 7,000'.“The best Elderhostel we have attended out of 19 programs. The beauty of Glacier National Park is unsurpassable and instructors were terrific”.
