Program #2802
7/13-7/21; 9/7-9/15
Explore two jewels of the "Crown of the Continent" -- Glacier National Park in Montana and Waterton National Park in Alberta. Though divided by the 49th parallel, these magnificent parks were combined in 1932 into the world's first international peace park, bridging the U.S. and Canada with the beauty and serenity of the Rockies. Study the eventful human history of Waterton Glacier International Peace Park as well as the geological features (arrest, cirques, and glaciers) and flora and fauna that make these parks unique. Background sessions and field studies introduce the flora and fauna, from the majestic grizzly to the timid pika, and from the elusive Lady Slipper to the unofficial park flower, Bear Grass. Naturalist-led walks, evening park ranger presentations, and a field trip to "Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump" immerse you in the rich heritage of the northern Rockies. Excursions include a scenic boat ride on Waterton Lake.Walking up to 2 miles during field trips; climbing 1-2 flights of stairs. Elevations from 3,500' to 7,000'
