Establishing a Scholarship

Annually Funded Scholarships
The primary purpose of an annually funded scholarship is to encourage students to attend Flathead Valley Community College and pursue academic excellence. These scholarships recognize special qualities and/or abilities of students. Scholarships are given to assist students with the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board. These scholarships are a vital part of the financial aid program at Flathead Valley Community College. Donors provide funds for one year and may repeat their gift each year.

Endowed Scholarships
The source of funds to establish a scholarship endowment can include contributions from family, friends, colleagues, a company, and others. Endowments are those funds which are donated with the express understanding that only the interest income from such funds may be used. A portion of the earnings from such funds are awarded, while the remainder is reinvested in the endowment account. An endowed scholarship can be established with a minimum gift of $5,000.  For a balance under $5,000, earnings are applied toward the growth of the scholarship fund.

Donors who establish an annually funded or endowed scholarship fund are asked to fill out our Scholarship Agreement Form (PDF).  In completing the form, you and the Foundation create an agreement that delineates the criteria for awarding the scholarship. The FVCC Foundation recognizes all endowed scholarship funds at our annual scholarship luncheon traditionally held in the fall.

Giving to an Existing Scholarship

If you are interested in providing funding for scholarship purposes but you aren’t yet ready to establish a named scholarship, then contributing to an existing scholarship fund may be an option. You can designate your contribution for the FVCC Foundation’s general scholarship fund or select an existing scholarship fund from among the list of Foundation scholarships.

Ongoing scholarships are listed in the college financial aid office, the college catalog, and our scholarship brochure (PDF).
