Equipment

Media Services provides a wide variety of equipment for instructional use.   Most of the items available are listed below; if items are needed that are not listed, please ask for availability.  Equipment will be delivered to classrooms if scheduled 24 hours in advance (Refer to Classroom Scheduling in the menu).  Equipment may be checked out by faculty and staff for off-campus use, if available.

An FVCC Library Card is needed to check out equipment
-- circulation period is typically 24 hours with a $10.00 per day fine for overdue materials.

Students may make arrangements with Media staff to utilize equipment on campus, depending on availability.

Most general purpose classrooms have a permanently mounted TV & VCR/DVD with a wall file located underneath for storage of remote control units.  TVs are set-up to work on channel 4.  Remote controls for the VCR/DVD should be kept in the wall file or on the front edge of the TV mount.  Instruction on how to utlize the more advanced features on the VCR/DVD is available upon request.  If a problem occurs in using the equipment, please notify Media Services immediately of the problem so that it may be corrected expediently.  Portable TV & VCR/DVD units are available to rooms without permanent equipment upon request. (Scroll down for more information about Audio Visual Equipment)

Most classrooms are wired for internet connection.  Notebook computers with ethernet cards, CD-ROM drives, Microsoft Office and Browser software are available on AV carts with attached data projectors for classroom use.  When scheduling, please be specific about your needs and include the software you will be using.

BSS 109, BSS 110, BSS 133, LRC 134, SAT 130, SAT 140, SAT 147, SAT 148, SAT 150, SAT 166, and SCA 140 class and boardrooms are equipped with multimedia computers (accessing the college network, Internet, MS Office applications) in locking cabinets and ceiling mounted data projectors. ITV classrooms in BSS 114 and BSS 115 have similar technology available. Keys are available from Malinda after a short training session on proper use of the equipment.  Information is solicited from faculty through division chairs and via e-mail to all faculty to determine which classes/instructors on campus might be regular Internet/Powerpoint users.  The intent is to schedule those high-use classes/instructors into those classrooms in order to avoid the constant hassles of the portable units.  With appropriations, more of these permanent stations will be installed in other classrooms to meet demand.
Please let Educational Services know a semester in advance if you need your class scheduled in a room with this technology.

If a problem occurs with classroom equipment, please notify Media Services immediately -- call 3828 from your in-room phone.
Every classroom should have a resident overhead projector; most have permanently installed TV monitors and VCR/DVD units.
Please do not remove an overhead projector from the classroom, make switches with other rooms, or 'steal' one from another room

If a problem occurs after office hours and it becomes necessary to find a working overhead projector, please return it to where you found it after use and notify Media Services immediately (leaving voice mail messages is fine).

Renting of AV equipment to off-campus groups is discouraged; FVCC is not in the business of renting equipment.  However, some specialty items that are not easily obtainable elsewhere in the valley may be rented at a premium price if the equipment is not needed for instructional purposes.  Equipment rentals must have the Director/Coordinator's approval; check with Malinda for availability and pricing.  Data projectors rent for $250.00/day when available.  Notebook computers are not rentable.

Common Rental Prices for Selected AV Equipment

  • Video/Data Projectors = $250.00/day
  • Slide, Opaque Projectors = $25.00/day
  • 5 foot tripod screens = $20.00/day
