FVCC Economics Instructor Dr. Gregg Davis was first enticed to study economics because of the challenge it presented.
“It gave me a perspective on thinking that I hadn’t encountered in other fields of study.”

After working in the nonprofit sector for five years following earning his master’s degree, Dr. Davis continued with study to earn a Ph.D. in economics. He served as Assistant Professor at the University of Louisiana-Monroe for three years following his doctorate work, and then had an opportunity to teach in an MBA program in Hong Kong. From there, he served as an associate professor of Economics at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. While there, he established and directed the Center for Business and Economic Research.
But Dr. Davis knew he wanted to return to Montana, and that’s just what he did.“
FVCC gave me an opportunity to return to Montana, where I had gone to school and worked for a decade. FVCC affords an opportunity to in a semester or two give students an introduction to economics on a practical level. In a local and national economy under rapid change, it’s exciting to introduce students to the challenges ahead for public policy and the role markets can serve.”
Now the director of the Center for Business and Information and Research at FVCC, Dr. Davis stays busy teaching and staying connected with the pulse of our community’s economy. In addition to presenting annually at the Montana Economic Outlook and Flathead Valley Economic Outlook Forecast Conferences, he is frequently addressing various community organizations, conducting studies and providing free consultations. Dr. Davis was recently nominated to the Association of Universities in Business and Economic Research Board of Directors. CBIR is the only community college research center that belongs to the association.
