The program will take place January 16 – April 16, 2011.
Participating students enrolled in 22 credits will be considered full-time FVCC students.
The program will operate from the premises of the Istituto Venezia, just off Campo Santa Margherita, in the heart of the University district of Dorsoduro.
All language classes will be delivered by the Istituto, one of Venice’s most highly regarded language schools. Language classes are “full immersion,” conducted in Italian, and are aimed at preparing the students so that they can function comfortably in their daily Venetian lives.
All other courses will be conducted in English.The Instituto’s classrooms also will be home for other classes and group meetings.The normal workload of a college class is required of these classes and will include written papers, mid and final semester tests, and participation in play readings. Students may elect to audit these classes.
Students are housed in apartments that are in various locations around the city.
Students are expected to cook, clean, and wash for themselves, just as they would do if they were renting an apartment in the United States.
The cost of the program includes an eight-day tour of Umbria and Tuscany in a private coach and hotel accommodation.
The program will facilitate all visas, permission to stay, travel insurance and Venetian Public Transport.
The Istituto offers Wi-Fi connection and a computer room for students to check email/use the Internet Mon-Fri during open hours.
All students must have a laptop computer with the capacity to receive WIFI internet and necessary adapter plugs.
Students will receive Istituto Venezia student cards which offer discounts at various stores, restaurants, internet cafes, theatres, etc.
FVCC students are invited to participate in any and all of the Istituto’s many free extracurricular activities for students outside of class time.
