Flathead Valley Community College will present An Evening of Opera featuring SopranoLoyda Vázquez, Pianist Maryruth Fallon and Master Violinist Wai Mizutani July 22.
Vázquez will perform the works of classical composers including Clara Schumann, Carl Bhom, Erik Satie, Vincenzo Bellini, Giacomo Puccini, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Manuel María Ponce, María Grever, Alfonso Esparza Oteo and others. Following the performance, Vázquez will engage in a discussion with the audience.
Raised in a home filled with music, Vázquez new she wanted to be a singer at the age of six. She began voice lessons at age 10 with her father who served as a professor of music at the University of Guadalajara. Vázquez is from La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, where she teaches music at the state music school, and she holds a degree in music. She learned to play the piano at a young age, and in her adult life, she played cello in the La Paz Orchestra. Alongside her father, Vázquez has performed in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Colima, Mexico, and she performs regularly in La Paz. Although she only speaks English and Spanish, she favors singing in Italian followed by German and French.
