Flathead Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center will offer a two-part family kayak adventure July 11 and 13. During this hands-on course, students will learn the many aspects of safety, physical conditioning, basic strokes, boat handling and design.
Instructed by Anne Feast Clark, this introduction to sea kayaking class is paced for individual beginners as well as parents or grandparents who wish to bring along youths 12 and older. The course will focus on the many ways paddlers can partner up from boat loading and launching to assisted re-entry in deep water following capsize.
Day one of the class will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Summit Medical Fitness Center pool. Day two will meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Echo Lake near Bigfork where students will gain basic skills maneuvering around the islands. Participants can bring their own kayaks or rent equipment.
The cost to enroll is $120 per student. Preregistration is required to participate. For more information or to register, visit http://www.fvcc.edu/continuing-education.html or call the FVCC Continuing Education Center at 756-3832.
