Flathead Valley Community College theatre will bring a delightfully twisted Christmas comedy to its stage this winter with “Reckless.”
Written by Craig Lucas, “Reckless” tells the story of Rachel Fitzsimons who is enjoying the magic of the holiday season until her husband informs her that he has taken out a contract on her life. Rachel’s world is suddenly turned upside down as she runs for her life, meeting a series of odd characters along the way. Each time she thinks she finds stability, she is disrupted once again. She finds herself in a strange world where it is difficult to distinguish fact from fiction and, even more perplexing, a world where it is always Christmas.
Director Rich Haptonstall says he is excited to see how the audience reacts to this show he describes as “funny but not goofy funny… it’s sort of a dark and twisted funny. I also love the writing and the style of the play. It’s fractured, mysterious and absurd in places.”
The show will welcome old and new faces to the FVCC Theatre stage, providing an opportunity to combine experienced skill sets with new talents, which Haptonstall says is one of his favorite aspects about directing.
“This cast has been an absolute joy,” he said. “I think we have some tour de force performances in here. I think that it’s going to be a very nice ensemble.”
Performances of “Reckless” will take place December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens. Admission is free for students. Advance tickets can be purchased at the FVCC Bookstore in Blake Hall or by calling (406) 756-3814, at Campus Grounds inside the Arts and Technology Building, or online at www.fvcc.edu/fvcctheatre.html. FVCC Theatre and the FVCC Veterans Association have joined forces with Toys for Tots to offer free admission to anyone who brings a new, unwrapped toy to donate.
