Deadline to Register for the Lottery is April 9th
Nourish the Flathead is now accepting registrations for the Flathead Community Garden plot lottery for the 2011 season.
Last year, Nourish the Flathead teamed up with Flathead Valley Community College to develop a one-acre community learning garden on the college campus to provide Flathead Valley community residents the opportunity to rent garden plots. For its second season beginning in April and concluding in October, Nourish the Flathead will offer 20 4X8-feet composted and ready-to-plant raised beds through a lottery system.
Plot rentals cost $35 dollars per season plus an additional $10 refundable deposit and include composted, ready-to-plant sheet mulched raised beds, water, tools and consultation from a garden manager. Each participant also will receive discounts on heirloom seeds and access to two educational workshops to be held throughout the summer.
Interested community members can sign up for the lottery by visiting nourishtheflathead.org to complete an application online or by contacting Shareen Springer to receive an application in the mail. The deadline to register is April 9. Selected participants will be notified by April 11.

Nourish the Flathead (NTF): Nourish the Flathead aims to reconnect people to the true source of their food, to increase community awareness about the importance of supporting local & sustainable producers, and to support local farmers and community organizations that support small farms, food security, and accessibility to nutritious, locally grown food. NTF seeks to increase the number of people growing local food and to support and encourage a network of community gardens across the Flathead Valley, providing and ensuring access to locally produced, nutritious food for families and individuals in our community. NTF encourages garden participants to grow and distribute produce to local food banks. NTF will support these efforts by collecting excess produce from June through September to donate to food shelves and meal programs in our communities.
